What’s Eye Catch: “Eye Catch” is a word-recognition app that will be available for “Google Glass” and can assist you in every day life, making it so that you don’t miss out on words or phrases that you wished to see! Let me explain further; users of the “Eye Catch” app will “plug” into the app specific words that they want the “Eye Catch” to “catch” for them anytime the “Google Glasses” see that word.. For example, if you were to plug the word “coffee” into your “Eye Catch” app every time your Google Glasses see the word coffee, whether you see it with your own eyes or not, “Eye Catch” will zoom, take a photo, and give you a “beep-beep” informing you that it saw one of your “words”. If “coffee” were plugged into “Eye Catch” i’m sure you would find that “Eye Catch” would see it many times daily, on your walk to class “Eye Catch” could see a poster for “coffee and book club” and it would take a photo, or “new coffee flavor in the student center today”, and once again, it would take a photo. So it should be used with words that you are really looking out for, that pertain to hobbies you have, perhaps certain foods you keeping your eyes peeled for, specials you want to be notified of, or even certain buzzwords that pertain to you or your job that you would love to be brought to your attention. “Eye catch” will catch, for you, many words and phrases that go unnoticed during busy and rushed days.
Example Scenario & Video: Say for example you are getting settled in a new area, whether be it a college campus as a freshman, or a big city as a recent hire, and you have a passion for dance.. You love dance and are interested in finding opportunities to dance in your new environment, but you don’t necessarily have the time to search around, in person or on the web. All you would need to do is plug the word “dance” into your “Google Glass” “Eye Catch” app and every time “Eye Catch” sees the word “dance” it will zoom in, take a picture of the word and it’s surrounding context, and send you a “beep-beep” noise to notify you one of “your words” has been caught! Take a look at how “Eye Catch” would work if I were to walk by this crowded poster wall in Newhouse in between classes with just a few seconds to look!
The following Slideshare presentation is the powerpoint our “Eye Catch” team used in when initially pitching our idea. Though it is hard to go off of without the auditory, and also stronger portion of the presentation, if you click through you can see some of what “Eye Catch” is about. Also included, are why our team has some great, maybe even unfair, advantages, because we are well rounded and practically thinkin’ chicas, and even some content on competitors of the “Eye Catch” intended app.
This pic, also from our presentation, shows me, Haley Schluter, using my hands when pitching! My group and I felt great about the presentation, after the work we put into developing, demographic analyzing and digital marketing, we felt we had a strong product to present about. We used Hootesuite, a comprehensive social media website to post our “Eye Catch” content to Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook, Google Plus and now WordPress. Also employed were the apps Vine and Instagram. Slideshare made it possible to upload our powerpoint and later embed it, and last but not least of the social media shoutouts, goes to Klout, which I referenced during the digital marketing portion of our pitch.
